I came to Huaraz in March 2024 to do day hikes in the area. I stayed with Erik in his hostel, Amauta de los Andes. It was a great experience. Erik was very helpful and the hikes were gorgeous. His place was also very comfortable and it had everything I needed, including a kitchen. I liked it so much that I am going back in December to do the Santa Cruz trek. When it is better weather in in July or September I will go back to do the Huayhuash trek. Erik is a very experienced guide and he helped me learn a lot about Peruvian culture. He introduced me to his whole family and they are extremely friendly and welcoming. I highly, highly recommend him.
My husband and I did a 6 day hike in Huayhuash in April 2026, and it was fantastic. We had to do a shorter hike due to our time constraints, but we felt we had more than enough time to experience the area. Erik was our guide, and he is absolutely wonderful. He has been a guide for over 20 years, knows the area extremely well, speaks English if needed, and is just a lovely person. We had Alejandro as our arriero and he was great as well. Food was diverse and delicious. We felt fortunate to just have the two of us with Erik and Alejandro, we saw larger groups and we appreciated the peace and pace of the small group. 10/10 recommend this trip with Erik.
